Amazing, the eyes and forehead turned out really well. There's something with his mouth that bugs me though. Maybe the shade that looks more like dirt.

cameras can only capture so much. The level of detail and expressional accuracy shows that you've sent this image through a very fine filter and extracted the personality.

As hunger artist said, your portraiture is way better than any camera +5

Wow... the detail is superb, allround. The hair looks SO good. And the subject, the first man on the Everest, equally nice :). Great skill!

By the way, how big is the original; A4, A3, ??

I can only assume for the most part the image has been traced -- as overlaying yours with this: http://www.anu.edu.au/pad/community/literary/pastlitevents/images/Hillary.GIF produces a near perfect match. If I am wrong in this assumption then extra credit to you ;) : nevertheless it is a great piece.

Superb hair and eyes. realy awesome (thumbup)

ChthonicDivinty

 12/11/02 @897

traced or not, he would still have to shade and add texture.. both of which are top notch

Anghiari

 12/12/02 @295

that is the exact book cover I drew it from - i didn't trace it, i put a clear plastic 1" grid over the book cover, then drew a light pencil grid on the paper to get proportions correct, which took about 3 hours. Inspiron i use ordinary staedtler 2B graphite in a drafting/clutch pencil. Thanks for your comments guys, John.

can you explain to us your tech? Is it B or HB ...? How you get that softness? Is that something of water colour? It looks me like magic. Thanks.

i feel ashamed to be in art that portrait is so good

Snakeman

 12/18/02 @356

i liked it much better before i found out it was drawn from something...but still very good....it was too good to be true...but you did do a good job of shading....however its a LOT!! easier to make the shadows and shades from something visual...lot harder from the brain...can i re-vote?

Mesobe

 12/19/02 @933

wow. It almost looks like it could have been a desaturated colour photograph. very nice indeed.

The drawing is great, the accuracy of the physical structure is really good, but the tonal values are not. There are several hot spots in the face, just below the right eye, the right ear, right corner of the mouth. You've done a terrific job of capturing the look of the person, but the solidity, mass, volume of the face breaks up because the values aren't correct. Just squint down and you'll see what I mean there are many hotspots poking out.
